I know what it is like to stand in front of a shelf full of products and still not know what is working. I had sensitive, reactive skin I could not soothe, and the more I added, the worse it got. We are taught from the beginning that our skin is not enough, that it needs more layers, more actives and more steps. We are not told what is actually happening beneath the surface, or that overloading skin might be the very thing breaking it down.
I was stuck in a cycle of damage, so I stripped everything back and started researching how to take better care of my own skin. While reading research papers and learning how skin functions, I found what nobody was talking about. This was early 2020, before skin barrier care and the microbiome became buzzwords. What I discovered changed how I thought about my own skin and made me realise that we had all been taught the wrong way to care for it.
I never set out to start a skincare brand, but I could not ignore what felt like a bigger mission: to change what skincare means. I enrolled on a Masters of Cosmetic Science so I could learn how to formulate and understand the details of skin biology. Then I spent more than four years working with specialist British chemists and poured every part of myself into developing an approach that did not exist.
Throda is not just a product. It is a movement towards skin health that is real, lasting and grounded in how skin works at a biological level.
It is a challenge to an industry that has told us for too long that our skin needs fixing. It does not. It needs supporting.
